The finest of all complications

Tourbillon

The tourbillion is considered the highest of all complications in watchmaking and is certainly the most beautiful. Invented and patented by Abraham-Luis Breguet in 1801, the tourbillon has become the symbol of the brand. Through the constant rotation of the balance, Breguet managed to compensate for the deviation of a watch due to the position and the resulting direction of gravity. This sophisticated mechanism is still considered a masterpiece of the greatest watchmaker of all time - Abraham-Louis Breguet.

A man who shaped the history of watchmaking

Breguet

Abraham-Louis Brequet born in 1747 was without doubt one of the most important men in the history of watchmaking, if not the most important. With inventions such as the first self-winding mechanism, the shock absorber and the Breguet hairspring, which are still found almost unchanged in every top brand watch today, he crowned the art of watchmaking alongside many other patents with the most beautiful of all complications: The Tourbillon. Even today, long after the death of the most gifted of all master watchmakers, the Breguet brand is still renowned for highly technical innovations in the art of watchmaking.

Inspiration on grey days

It's that time again. The persistent high fog has Vienna firmly in its grip. When I look out of the window, grey is the dominant tone. What is needed is a little horological cheer for the mind. And with that: Welcome to my absolute favourite feature of the current Timelounge homepage.

Thinking of spring today

In the middle of last week, the time had come. A soft chirping sound made me open the windows, which had been kept closed for most of the past months, and there it was: spring. At least a very first, even delicate hint of it. The first birds singing, temperatures that no longer seemed so wintry. One glance at the clock and it was clear: a change was needed for the new season.
