The Nautilus that was to become the Aquanaut
The link between the Nautilus and the Aquanaut is the yellow gold Ref.5060. Secretly introduced as the Nautilus 5060S in 1996 it could be seen as a test from Patek to have a Nautilus on a leather strap. This led the brand in the following year to introduce an all new collection of sports watches based on this reference, later to be named Aquanaut. A new model line which was designed to appeal to a younger audience that had a decidedly more casual approach to luxury. After the official launch of the Aquanaut collection in 1997 the reference of the watch changed from 5060S to 5060J.
