The Pilot's Watch
The Rolex GMT Master was developed in collaboration with Pan American Airways, as in the 1940s and 50s, the flight distances were getting bigger and the pilots had to travel through multiple time zones. Pilots used the extra pointer to display the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) on the Lynette, which led to the name Rolex GMT Master. Although Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) was replaced by Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in the aviation industry in 1972, the term GMT is still known and used in the name of the GMT Master.

The perfect mix of steel and gold
The harmonious interaction of steel and gold is called Rolesor. Bezel, winding crown and center elements of the bracelet are made of 18ct yellow or everose gold. On models in Rolesor white only the bezel is in 18ct white gold and the rest in Oystersteel.

Legendary Waterproofness
The Oyster case is a milestone in the history of watchmaking. Invented by Rolex in 1926, it was the world's first waterproof watch case. Bezel, caseback and winding crown are screwed watertight to the middle section. Form and function are perfectly matched - typically Rolex.
