Die Erfolgsgeschichte von IWC begann 1868, als sich der amerikanische Ingenieur Florentine Aristo Jones in Schaffhausen in der Schweiz niederließ. Gemeinsam mit seinem Geschäftspartner, Johann Heinrich Moser, der ein System zur industriellen Nutzung der Wasserkraft des Rheins erfand, begannen sie mit der maschinengestützten Produktion von Uhren. Im folgenden Jahr produzierten sie bereits über 10.000 Uhren für den US-Markt und weiteten den Verkauf international aus.

For a brief moment, I seriously considered starting this short article with a scientific treatise on the production of carbon fibers. However, given my rather limited abilities in the natural sciences during my school days, I immediately abandoned this idea and instead turned my attention to the things that move us all on a daily basis.
