The Pilot's Watch
The Rolex GMT Master was developed in collaboration with Pan American Airways, as in the 1940s and 50s, the flight distances were getting bigger and the pilots had to travel through multiple time zones. Pilots used the extra pointer to display the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) on the Lynette, which led to the name Rolex GMT Master. Although Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) was replaced by Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in the aviation industry in 1972, the term GMT is still known and used in the name of the GMT Master.

rare transitional modells
The "Swiss only" dials were produced between the years 1998 and 1999. They mark the transition between the until then produced tritium dials and the modern super Luminova dials. The luminous material used in the "Swiss only" dials was called Luminova. Due to the short production time and the interesting history as a transitional model, Rolex models with the "Swiss only" dial are very special watches in the Rolex collection and future collectors' items.

Robust & sought after
For a Rolex to retain its beauty and functionality in extreme conditions, Rolex uses its own stainless steel alloy - Oystersteel. It is particularly resistant to corrosion and distinguished by its special shine. Oystersteel belongs to the steel grade "Stainless Steel 904L" which is normally used in extreme areas such as the aerospace and chemical industries.
